Purpose of the Capstone Project

The Final Year Project is a compulsory capstone experience that measures a student's ability to define a real problem, design a sound computing solution, build a working system or model, evaluate it properly, and present the outcome professionally.

At IMCS, the FYP may take the form of a software system, AI or data solution, cybersecurity tool, IoT prototype, research study, or another approved computing project that demonstrates six credit hours of substantive work.

1Choose a problem with practical relevance, measurable outcomes, and enough depth for a full-year capstone.
2Software ideas must go beyond simple CRUD and include proper validation, workflow, testing, and meaningful functionality.
3AI, data science, and cybersecurity work must explain datasets, methods, metrics, legal boundaries, and evaluation clearly.
4Scope the project so it can be designed, implemented, tested, documented, and defended within six credit hours.

Proposal Requirements

Include title, student details, supervisor, problem statement, background, objectives, scope, and beneficiaries.
Add SDG or thematic alignment, literature review or existing system analysis, methodology, tools, architecture, expected deliverables, and timeline.
For AI or data-led work, specify dataset details, ethical considerations, and team responsibilities up front.

FYP-I Outputs

Approved proposal and literature review.
Software requirements or technical specification, system design, and early prototype or proof of concept.
Work breakdown, progress log, and supervisor meeting record for the FYP-I presentation and viva.
